AMIN3401: American Indian Art

3 Credits

This course will emphasize the work of American Indian artists who navigated the complexities of being a Native Modern, including Morrison (Grand Portage Ojibwe), and other Ojibwe fine artists including Patrick Desjarlait (Red Lake Ojibwe), and the Dakota painter, Oscar Howe. The course will also introduce students to the practice of curating, and will ask how we build alternative archives, and what stories clothing, beadwork, baskets, photographs, and other forms of material culture tell us about Indigenous culture and history.
